The Norm Is to Be Defied
For just like our fingerprints differ, our norms differ
“Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people.” ~unknown source
My main dream as a young girl was to travel around the world and study abroad. At the time it felt like, just but a dream because “the when and the how” were not clear. But somehow my dreams came true.
It wasn’t smooth sailing, but I didn’t expect it to be. Learning new languages, Visa processes, and homesickness were amongst the challenges that sometimes made me question my path — the difficult path as some may see it. But here’s the deal; whether we explore the world or stay at home, we all face challenges. Different challenges they may be, but life presents us all with challenges. I wouldn’t even say one is easier than the other. It just depends on what you want for yourself.
There were times that I thought to myself… maybe… just maybe this is not what I wanted. This is too difficult. Maybe this dream of exploring the world is too big a dream. Maybe I should just be content. Settle in one country, raise a family, I don’t know….. get a regular job. A.K.A do what society considers the norm.
But picturing this kind of life made me feel like I am settling without even knowing what is outside there…
