I Wish We Didn’t Have to Talk About Weight and Body Image Issues

But we are not there yet

Regardless of our age or geographical location, low body esteem is a challenge shared by women and girls all over the world. And the results are alarming:

· Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful

· Only 11% of girls globally are comfortable describing themselves as ‘beautiful’

· 72% of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful

· 80% of women agree that every woman has something about her that is beautiful, but do not see their own beauty

· More than half of women globally (54%) agree that when it comes to how they look, they are their own worst beauty critic

The need to achieve societal beauty standards is not something new. Women from all generations have experienced it in one way or another. Our grandmothers had their own body image issues. Our mothers had their own body image issues. We have our own body image issues, and if we are not careful, we will pass this useless mantle to our children.

Why do we need to talk about body image issues?

This is a worldwide problem. We cannot deny the fact that the Internet and Social Media…
