Do We Realize How Often We Pass on Our Fears to Other People?
People will talk you out of anything they are afraid to do
I have moved countries 5 times in my life. And every time I was about to move, when I shared my excitement with people, the excitement would die so fast.
Parents. Significant others. Friends. Will talk you out of things because, well…. they are trying to protect you.
From what?
People will warn you: Country X is full of racists. You will be robbed. You will be kidnapped. You will come back with a disease.
And most of these people are just repeating what they’ve heard others say.
For some reason, in this age of easy access to information, we have chosen to remain ignorant.
Can we start thinking already and stop living on a diet of propaganda?
My personality tends to be more on the optimist side. And maybe, that is why despite all the be-careful-warnings, whenever I made up my mind, no one could convince me otherwise.
Not that I have never had bad experiences in foreign countries, I certainly have. But can we honestly say that people who succumbed to their fears and stayed “safe” have had none bad experiences?
